Possible Causes
Excessive grease buildup on drip tray and cookbox, Cooking very fatty foods at high temperature, Blocked grease drain causing pooling grease
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Do not open the lid fully during an active grease fire. Turn the grill off and unplug it. Keep the lid closed to starve the fire of oxygen. Use a Class B fire extinguisher if flames escape the grill. Never use water on a grease fire.
- After fire is out and grill is cool: Open the lid and inspect for damage to wiring, paint, and components.
- Thorough cleaning: Remove grates, drip tray, and heat baffles. Scrape and remove all grease from the drip tray, grease channel, and cookbox.
- Inspect wiring and components: Check RTD probe wires, fan wires, and igniter wires for melted insulation. Replace any damaged harnesses.
- Check paint and seals: Severe fires can damage interior coatings and seals. Replace damaged parts as needed.
- Preventive maintenance: Clean grease management components regularly, especially after cooking fatty meats.
