Possible Causes
Exposure to moisture and humidity, Infrequent use without seasoning, Scratched or worn protective coating, Storing grill uncovered outdoors
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Ensure the grill is cool before cleaning or applying oil.
- Remove loose rust: Use a grill brush or non-abrasive pad to remove surface rust from grates and interior surfaces.
- Clean and dry: Wipe surfaces with a damp cloth, then dry thoroughly.
- Season surfaces: Apply a thin coat of high-smoke-point cooking oil to grates and interior surfaces, then run the grill at a moderate temperature to bake in the oil.
- Use a cover: Store the grill under a Yoder cover when not in use and avoid leaving pellets in the hopper in damp environments.
- Replace severely rusted parts: If grates or diffuser plates are heavily pitted, replace them with new Yoder components.
