Possible Causes

Broken communication cable between Calpeda pump controller and automation system, Incorrect Modbus address or baud rate in Calpeda controller, Reversed polarity on RS-485 terminals, Electrical noise interference on communication line

How to Fix / Troubleshooting

Safety first: Turn off power to the control circuits before rewiring communication lines.

  • Check physical connections: Inspect the RS-485 or other communication terminals on the Calpeda controller. Ensure A/B (or +/−) wires are correctly landed and firmly tightened.
  • Verify cable integrity: Use a continuity tester to check the communication cable for breaks or shorts. Replace damaged cable with twisted-pair, shielded cable as recommended by Calpeda.
  • Confirm settings: In both the Calpeda controller and the external automation system, verify that baud rate, parity, stop bits, and device address match exactly.
  • Check termination: Ensure that termination resistors are installed only at the ends of the RS-485 bus, not at every device. Incorrect termination can cause E12 errors.
  • Reduce interference: Route communication cables away from high-voltage and motor cables. Use shielded cable and connect the shield to ground at one end only.
  • Reset communication module: Power-cycle the controller and automation system after corrections. Clear the E12 error and test remote control.
