Possible Causes
Normal PWM switching noise from Calpeda VFD, Early-stage bearing wear in Calpeda motor, Loose motor mounting bolts, Incorrect carrier frequency setting in Calpeda inverter
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Turn off power before tightening mounts or opening enclosures.
- Differentiate normal vs abnormal: A light, consistent whine that changes with speed is often normal for inverter-driven motors. Sudden changes or grinding overtones suggest a problem.
- Check motor mounts: Tighten all motor mounting bolts and ensure the base is rigid and level.
- Inspect bearings: Listen closely at the motor ends. If the whine is accompanied by roughness or vibration, plan for bearing inspection or replacement.
- Adjust carrier frequency: If supported, change the VFD carrier frequency setting in the Calpeda controller to move the noise out of the most audible range, following Calpeda guidelines.
