Possible Causes
Binding impeller in Franklin Electric pump wet end, Incorrect motor parameter settings in drive (overload too low), Shorted motor leads or insulation breakdown, Pump running against closed valves causing excessive load
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Turn off power and lock out the breaker before opening the pump or control box.
- Check for hydraulic overload: Ensure suction and discharge valves are properly set. Do not run the pump with all valves closed. Open at least one return line fully.
- Inspect wet end for binding: Remove the pump lid and basket. Check for debris at the impeller eye. If needed, separate the motor from the volute and inspect the impeller and diffuser for obstructions or rubbing marks.
- Verify drive settings: On the Franklin Electric controller, check motor rated current and power settings against the motor nameplate. Increase the overload limit only within manufacturer guidelines.
- Test motor insulation: With power off, use a megohmmeter to test motor winding insulation to ground. Low readings indicate a failing motor.
- If mechanical and wiring issues are resolved: Clear the fault and test. Persistent E05 suggests a failing motor or drive; replace the affected component.
