Possible Causes

Disconnected or damaged RS-485 cable, Incorrect RS-485 polarity, Faulty AquaLink PCB, Incorrect address or configuration in controller

How to Fix / Troubleshooting

Safety first: Turn off power to both the pump and the AquaLink control panel before working on low-voltage wiring.

  • Inspect RS-485 wiring:
    • Locate the RS-485 terminals on the Jandy pump drive and on the AquaLink board.
    • Ensure the A/B (or +/–) wires are landed on matching terminals at both ends.
    • Check for loose screws, corrosion, or broken conductors.
  • Check cable integrity:
    • Follow the cable run and look for cuts, rodent damage, or splices.
    • Replace the cable if insulation is damaged or conductors are exposed.
  • Verify addressing and settings:
    • In the AquaLink menu, confirm the pump is enabled and correctly addressed as a Jandy VS pump.
    • On the pump, ensure it is set to external control mode if required.
  • Power cycle system:
    • After correcting wiring, power up the AquaLink first, then the pump.
    • Allow a few minutes for communication to establish.
  • If COMM error persists: The AquaLink main board or the pump’s communication interface may be faulty. Contact a Jandy-authorized service technician for board-level diagnostics.
