Possible Causes

Food or grease spills on oven bottom, Foil covering oven bottom trapping heat, New oven protective oils burning off, Broiling with door closed (on some models)

How to Fix / Troubleshooting

Safety first: If smoke is heavy, turn off the oven, open windows, and allow the unit to cool. Do not leave the oven unattended.

  • Inspect interior: After cooling, remove racks and inspect the oven bottom and walls for heavy spills or residue.
  • Clean oven: Use a non-abrasive oven cleaner or a baking soda paste to remove grease and burnt-on food. Avoid spraying directly on heating elements or door gasket.
  • Remove foil: Do not line the oven bottom with foil, as it can trap heat and cause smoking and damage.
  • Burn-in cycle: For new Avanti ovens, run an empty bake cycle at 400–450°F for 30–60 minutes to burn off manufacturing oils, with good ventilation.
