Possible Causes
Food or grease buildup on burners or oven surfaces, Foil or plastic left in oven, Overheating wiring or insulation, Failing fan motor
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: If you see flames or heavy smoke, turn off gas and power and keep the oven door closed. Use a fire extinguisher rated for kitchen use if necessary.
- Inspect interior: Once cool, check for spilled food, grease, or foreign objects on the oven floor, racks, and burner area. Clean thoroughly with appropriate oven cleaners.
- Check burner area: Remove burner caps and heads and clean off any baked-on grease that may be smoking.
- Inspect wiring (if odor is electrical): With power off, remove rear and bottom panels to look for discolored or melted wires. Replace damaged wiring and identify the cause of overheating (e.g., failing motor or loose connection).
- Initial burn-in: New BlueStar ranges may emit odors during initial high‑temperature use. Run the oven empty at 400–450°F for 30–60 minutes with good ventilation to burn off manufacturing residues.
