Possible Causes

Factory oils burning off new elements, food spills on bottom of oven, high-fat foods splattering, dirty bake element

How to Fix / Troubleshooting

Safety first: Ensure good kitchen ventilation. If smoke is heavy or smells electrical, turn off the oven and inspect.

  • Initial burn-in: For new Café ranges, run an empty bake cycle at 400–450°F for 30–60 minutes with windows open to burn off manufacturing residues.
  • Clean spills: Once cool, wipe up any food spills from the oven bottom and walls. Avoid getting water on hot elements.
  • Use drip pans: When cooking high-fat foods, use a tray to catch drips and prevent them from hitting the hot elements.
  • Inspect elements: Check bake and broil elements for heavy buildup and clean gently if needed.
