Possible Causes
Spilled food or grease on elements, New oven protective oils burning off, Foil touching elements, Incorrect cookware
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: If smoke is heavy, turn off the oven and ventilate the room. Keep children away.
- Initial burn-in: For new ovens, run an empty cycle at a moderate temperature (e.g. 200–220°C) for 30–60 minutes with good ventilation to burn off manufacturing residues.
- Clean spills: Once cool, remove racks and clean the oven cavity, especially around elements and the bottom panel, with an appropriate oven cleaner.
- Avoid foil contact: Do not line the oven base or racks with foil that can touch elements; this can cause localized overheating and smoke.
- Check elements: Inspect elements for heavy carbon deposits. Clean gently if accessible or replace if damaged.
Warning: Persistent burning smell with no visible residue may indicate electrical overheating; in that case, disconnect power and have the oven inspected.
