Possible Causes

Aging oven temperature sensor, Control board calibration off, Poor rack placement or door opening habits, Incorrect user calibration settings

How to Fix / Troubleshooting

Safety first: Use caution when working around a hot oven.

  • Verify with thermometer:
    • Place an oven thermometer in the center of the oven.
    • Set oven to 350°F and allow at least 20–30 minutes to stabilize.
    • Compare actual temperature to set temperature.
  • Adjust calibration:
    • Most Kenmore ranges allow offset adjustment via the control panel (e.g., hold Bake for several seconds, then adjust +/- up to 35°F).
    • Follow your user manual to set the offset to correct the difference.
  • Check sensor:
    • If temperature is off by more than calibration can correct, test the oven temperature sensor resistance at room temperature.
    • Replace if out of spec.
  • Control board:
    • If sensor is good and calibration fails to correct, the electronic oven control (EOC) may be inaccurate and require replacement.
