Possible Causes
Factory oils burning off new oven surfaces, Heavy grease buildup on oven bottom, Food spills on bake element or burner, Foil blocking airflow causing localized burning
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Ensure good kitchen ventilation. If smoke is heavy or you see flames, turn off the oven and keep the door closed.
Steps:
- Initial burn-in: For new Magic Chef ranges, run an empty oven at 400–450°F for 30–60 minutes to burn off manufacturing residues. Expect some odor and light smoke.
- Clean spills: Once cool, remove heavy grease and food spills from the oven bottom and racks with a non-abrasive cleaner.
- Avoid foil on bottom: Do not line the oven bottom with foil; it can trap heat and cause burning and damage.
- Check element: For electric models, inspect the bake element for heavy baked-on residue and clean gently if needed.
Note: Persistent smoke after cleaning may indicate a failing element or burner; inspect for hot spots or uneven heating.
