Possible Causes
Spilled food or grease on elements, Foil covering oven bottom or racks, New oven burn-off residues, Overheating due to blocked vents
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Turn off the oven if heavy smoke occurs. Open windows for ventilation and avoid breathing fumes.
- Inspect cavity: After cooling, remove racks and inspect the oven bottom, walls, and elements for heavy grease or spills. Clean with an oven-safe cleaner.
- Remove foil: Do not line the oven bottom or racks with foil, as this can trap heat and cause overheating and smoke.
- New oven burn-off: For a new RCA range, run an empty bake cycle at 400–450°F for 30–60 minutes to burn off manufacturing residues, following the user manual.
- Check vents: Ensure oven vents are not blocked by pans or covers.
