Possible Causes
Food or grease spilled on oven bottom, New oven protective oils burning off, Incorrect cookware or foil blocking airflow, Element contamination
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: If smoke is heavy, turn off the oven, open windows, and keep the oven door closed until smoke subsides.
- Initial burn-in: For new Thor Kitchen ranges, run an empty bake cycle at 400–450°F for 30–60 minutes to burn off manufacturing residues, following the manual.
- Clean spills: Once cool, remove racks and clean the oven bottom and walls with a non-abrasive cleaner. Avoid getting cleaner on the door gasket.
- Avoid foil on bottom: Do not line the oven bottom with foil, as this can trap heat and cause burning odors.
- Check element: Inspect bake and broil elements for heavy buildup. Gently clean with a damp cloth when cool.
