Safety first: Disconnect power before accessing internal panels or wiring.
Diagnosis steps:
- Locate the fridge sensor: In most Arctic refrigerators, the fresh food thermistor is behind a small plastic cover on the rear or side wall of the refrigerator compartment.
- Visual inspection: Remove the cover and inspect the sensor and wires. Look for broken insulation, corrosion, or a sensor hanging loose from its clip.
- Connector check: Trace the sensor wires to the nearest connector. Unplug and re-seat the connector several times to clean contacts.
- Resistance test (if you have a multimeter): With the fridge unplugged, disconnect the sensor and measure resistance across the two sensor leads. At around 25°C (77°F), most NTC thermistors read roughly 5–10 kΩ (check service data if available). A reading of 0 Ω (short) or infinite (open) indicates a bad sensor.
- Replace if faulty: If the sensor is open/shorted or physically damaged, replace it with the correct Arctic refrigerator thermistor. Route the new sensor wiring along the original path and secure it away from moving parts or sharp edges.
Note: After replacement, allow 12–24 hours for temperatures to stabilize and for the control to recalibrate.
