Robot beeps and displays E1, will not start cleaning cycle

Possible Causes
Front bumper jammed by debris, Bumper spring mechanism misaligned, Front IR collision sensors blocked or contaminated, Bumper switch harness loose
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Turn the robot OFF and remove it from the charging dock. If the model has a power switch on the side or bottom, switch it OFF before working on it.
Step-by-step:
- Inspect the front bumper: Gently press the front bumper in and release. It should move freely and spring back. If it feels stuck, check for hair, threads, or debris wedged between the bumper and the body.
- Clean the bumper gap: Use a soft brush or compressed air to clean the gap around the bumper. Run a thin plastic card (not metal) around the edge to dislodge trapped dirt.
- Check bumper travel: With the robot off, repeatedly tap the bumper from different angles. Ensure it clicks and returns smoothly.
- Clean front IR sensors: Wipe the dark plastic windows along the front bumper with a slightly damp microfiber cloth, then dry. Avoid solvents.
- Check for misalignment: If the bumper is visibly crooked or rubbing on the shell, gently pull it outward and reseat it. Do not force it; small adjustments usually free it.
- Power cycle: Turn the robot back ON, place it on a flat floor, and press Start. If E1 persists, the internal bumper switch or wiring may be faulty.
When to stop: If the bumper feels loose with no spring resistance, or the error returns immediately after cleaning, the bumper switch assembly likely needs replacement and professional service is recommended.
