Possible Causes

Debris jammed in wheel well, Damaged wheel suspension spring, Failed drive motor or gearbox, Faulty wheel encoder sensor

How to Fix / Troubleshooting

Safety first: Power off the robot and remove it from the dock. Do not force the wheels while powered.

  • 1. Inspect wheel wells: Turn the robot over and manually move each drive wheel up and down. Look for trapped debris (toys, cords, carpet edges) around the wheel and in the suspension cavity. Remove any obstructions.
  • 2. Check wheel rotation: Spin each wheel by hand. Both should rotate smoothly with similar resistance. If one is locked or very stiff, the gearbox may be jammed.
  • 3. Clean hair from axles: Use tweezers to remove hair wrapped around the wheel axles or inside the wheel hub.
  • 4. Reset and test: After cleaning, power on the robot and start a short cleaning cycle on a flat, hard floor. Observe whether both wheels drive correctly.
  • 5. Advanced inspection: If one wheel still fails, the internal motor or encoder may be defective. On many LG models, the wheel module is a single replaceable assembly. Remove the bottom cover, disconnect the wheel module harness, and replace the entire wheel module if visibly damaged or if the motor is open-circuit when tested with a multimeter.
