Possible Causes

Front bumper jammed by debris, Bumper springs misaligned, Collision switch stuck closed, Bumper IR sensor window clogged with dust

How to Fix / Troubleshooting

Safety first: Switch OFF the robot and remove it from the dock.

  • Step 1 – Check bumper movement: Gently press the front bumper in and release. It should move freely and spring back evenly across the entire width.
  • Step 2 – Clear debris: Inspect the gap between the bumper and the main body. Remove crumbs, pet hair, or small objects using a soft brush or compressed air.
  • Step 3 – Clean sensor windows: Wipe the front IR sensor windows behind the bumper with a dry microfiber cloth. Do not use harsh chemicals.
  • Step 4 – Tap to free stuck switches: Lightly tap along the bumper to free any sticking micro-switches inside.
  • Step 5 – Power cycle and test: Turn the robot ON and start a cleaning cycle in an open area. If the bumper still appears unresponsive or E4 returns, the internal bumper switch assembly or sensor board may need replacement.
