Possible Causes

Front bumper jammed by debris, Bumper springs misaligned, Dust blocking internal infrared collision sensors, Bumper switch or sensor harness loose

How to Fix / Troubleshooting

Safety first: Power the robot OFF and remove it from the dock.

  • 1. Check bumper movement: Gently press the front bumper in and release. It should move freely and spring back evenly across its width.
  • 2. Clear obstructions: Inspect the gap between the bumper and the robot body. Remove any lodged debris, such as small toys, cables, or dirt clumps.
  • 3. Clean bumper sensors: Use a soft cloth to wipe the front IR windows behind or on the bumper. Dust can interfere with collision detection.
  • 4. Tap to reset: With the robot powered ON, gently tap the bumper a few times across its length to ensure the internal switches are not stuck.
  • 5. Inspect internally (advanced): Remove the top or front cover (model-dependent) to access the bumper switches or IR boards. Check that the bumper springs are seated correctly and that sensor cables are firmly connected.
  • 6. Replace bumper assembly if needed: If the bumper remains stiff or the error persists, the bumper switch assembly or IR collision board may need replacement.

Warning: Avoid bending the bumper frame; misalignment can cause chronic sensor errors.
