This repair may involve working with high voltage components or water connections. Always unplug the appliance before removing any panels.
If you are not confident in your ability to perform this repair safely, we strongly recommend contacting a professional technician.
Possible Causes
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Do not attempt to restart repeatedly with a low oil pressure alarm. Engine damage can occur. Allow the engine to cool and isolate the battery before opening any covers.
- Check oil level: Use the engine dipstick. Top up with the manufacturer‑specified oil grade for your Atlas Copco standby generator engine. Do not overfill.
- Inspect for leaks: Look around the oil filter, sump, drain plug, and oil cooler hoses for fresh oil. Tighten loose fittings and replace damaged hoses or gaskets.
- Replace oil filter: If the unit is overdue for service, replace the engine oil filter and perform a full oil change according to the Atlas Copco maintenance schedule.
- Test oil pressure switch: Locate the oil pressure switch on the engine block. With the engine off, disconnect the wire and check continuity to ground. It should be closed (grounded) at rest on most shutdown switches. If it remains open or intermittent, replace the switch.
- Verify actual oil pressure (advanced): A technician can install a mechanical gauge in the oil gallery to confirm real oil pressure. If pressure is genuinely low, internal engine repair is required.
Do not bypass the oil pressure switch for normal operation. If low oil pressure is confirmed, contact an authorized Atlas Copco service provider.
