Possible Causes
Broken or shorted CAN wiring, Incorrect CAN termination, Faulty engine ECU, Controller firmware incompatibility
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Isolate DC power before unplugging or re‑terminating CAN bus connectors to avoid damage.
- Inspect CAN wiring: Locate the twisted pair CAN cables between the Atlas Copco controller and the engine ECU. Check for cuts, abrasions, or crushed sections.
- Check connectors: Reseat all CAN connectors, ensuring pins are straight and corrosion‑free.
- Verify termination: Confirm that only the two ends of the CAN bus are terminated with 120 Ω resistors. Remove any extra terminations.
- Measure resistance: With power off, measure resistance between CAN‑H and CAN‑L. Expect ~60 Ω if two 120 Ω terminators are present. Deviations indicate wiring issues.
- Controller/ECU reset: Power cycle the controller and ECU. If E016 persists, firmware or ECU hardware may be at fault.
Advanced CAN diagnostics may require OEM tools and should be performed by an Atlas Copco technician.
