Possible Causes

Incorrect wiring of generator output leads, Miswired ATS load or line connections, Reversed phases after service work, Faulty phase rotation sensor circuit

How to Fix / Troubleshooting

Safety First: Three-phase wiring errors can damage motors and equipment. All work should be performed by a qualified electrician. De-energize both utility and generator sources before opening panels.

  • 1. Verify phase labeling: Confirm that generator output terminals are correctly labeled (L1, L2, L3) and match the wiring diagram.
  • 2. Check ATS connections: In the GE ATS, ensure that line and load terminals maintain the same phase order from utility through to load and generator.
  • 3. Use a phase rotation meter: With power restored (one source at a time), use a phase rotation meter to verify correct sequence at the generator and at the load side of the ATS.
  • 4. Correct any reversed phases: If rotation is incorrect, swap two phases at the generator or ATS output (with power OFF) to restore proper sequence.
  • 5. Clear alarm: After correcting wiring, clear the Phase Rotation Error by cycling the controller OFF then AUTO and run a test under light load.
