Possible Causes

Incorrect wiring of phases at alternator or transfer switch, Engine speed out of tolerance, Faulty frequency sensing circuit in controller

How to Fix / Troubleshooting

Safety first: Open the transfer switch and lock it out. Turn OFF the generator and disconnect battery negative. Only qualified persons should work on live power systems.

  • Verify phase rotation: For three-phase Lifan units, use a phase rotation meter at the generator output lugs. Ensure the rotation matches the transfer switch and building system. If reversed, swap any two phase conductors at the generator terminals.
  • Check frequency: Start the generator in MANUAL with no load and measure frequency with a meter. Adjust the governor (per Lifan procedure) to bring frequency within 59–61 Hz for 60 Hz systems.
  • Inspect controller sensing wires: Ensure the voltage/frequency sensing leads from the alternator to the Lifan controller are correctly landed and not loose or damaged.
  • Controller fault: If wiring and frequency are correct but E15 persists, the controller’s sensing circuit may be defective. Replace the Lifan digital controller after confirming with factory diagnostics.
