Possible Causes

Incorrect generator output wiring, Miswired voltage sensing to controller, Reversed phases at ATS or switchboard, Faulty phase sequence relay

How to Fix / Troubleshooting

Safety first: De-energize all affected circuits and verify absence of voltage before changing any wiring. Only qualified personnel should perform this work.

  • Verify phase rotation: Use a phase rotation meter at the generator terminals and at the ATS/load connection to confirm correct sequence (e.g., L1-L2-L3).
  • Inspect terminal connections: Compare actual connections to the MTU wiring diagram. Correct any swapped phases at the generator terminal box or switchboard.
  • Check sensing wiring: Ensure the controller’s voltage sensing leads are connected to the correct phases and in the proper order.
  • Test phase sequence relay: If wiring is correct but F14 persists, test or replace the phase sequence relay or input module used by the MTU controller.
  • System test: After corrections, clear the F14 alarm and perform a transfer test with the ATS, verifying proper rotation at critical loads.
