Possible Causes
Failed automatic voltage regulator (AVR), Loose or damaged stator winding connections, Incorrect engine speed (overspeed), Faulty controller voltage sensing circuit
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Turn the generator OFF, disconnect the battery negative cable, and lock out the automatic transfer switch if possible. High voltage can be lethal—do not probe live terminals unless you are qualified.
- Inspect wiring at alternator: Remove the alternator access cover. Check all stator and rotor lead connections to the AVR and terminal block. Tighten any loose screws and look for burned or discolored wires.
- Check AVR connections: Locate the automatic voltage regulator module. Ensure its plug connectors are fully seated and free of corrosion. If the AVR shows signs of burning or cracking, it should be replaced.
- Verify engine speed issues first: If you recently had governor or carburetor work done, overspeed may be causing high voltage. Refer to the overspeed (E03) steps to correct RPM before replacing electrical parts.
- Do not bypass safety: Never attempt to bypass the AVR or controller voltage sensing. This can damage connected loads and create a fire hazard.
- Professional testing: If tightening connections does not resolve E07, a technician should measure no‑load and loaded voltage, test the AVR, and check stator resistance before replacing components.
