Possible Causes
Worn carbon brushes on universal motor (if fitted), Faulty motor tachometer sensor, Open or shorted motor windings, Defective motor triac or relay on PCB
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Disconnect the appliance from mains and avoid rotating the drum by hand with power applied.
- Step 1 – Check drum movement: With power off, rotate the drum by hand. It should turn smoothly without grinding. If it is stiff or seized, suspect a mechanical issue (bearing or foreign object) rather than motor electronics.
- Step 2 – Access motor: Remove the rear panel. Locate the drive motor at the bottom of the tub. Inspect the drive belt for breakage or slipping (if the belt is off, refit or replace it first).
- Step 3 – Inspect carbon brushes (if applicable): On brushed motors, remove the brush holders and check brush length. If brushes are worn below manufacturer minimum or unevenly worn, replace both brushes with genuine Beko-compatible parts.
- Step 4 – Test tachometer: At the motor, locate the tachometer coil. Measure its resistance with a multimeter (typically a few hundred ohms). An open circuit indicates a faulty tachometer.
- Step 5 – Check motor windings: Measure resistance between motor terminals according to the wiring diagram. Very low or infinite readings suggest a failed motor.
- Step 6 – PCB diagnosis: If motor, brushes, and tachometer are good, the motor control circuit on the PCB (triac or inverter stage) may be defective. This usually requires board-level repair or replacement by a professional.
