Possible Causes
Failed drive motor, Faulty motor tachometer sensor, Loose motor harness connector, Defective motor control circuit on main board
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Unplug the combo and avoid rotating the drum by hand at high speed. Capacitors in the drive circuit may hold charge.
- 1. Reset control: Disconnect power for 10 minutes, then retry a spin-only cycle to rule out a transient fault.
- 2. Check for overload: Remove excess laundry and redistribute the load. An overloaded or unbalanced load can trigger motor errors.
- 3. Access motor area: Remove rear or front lower panel to access the drive motor and belt (if belt-driven).
- 4. Inspect wiring: Verify the motor harness connector is fully seated at the motor and at the control board. Look for chafed or broken wires.
- 5. Visual motor check: Look for burn marks or a burnt smell from the motor. If present, the motor should be replaced.
- 6. Tachometer test (if accessible): Some Speed Queen motors have an integrated tach sensor. Check resistance across tach leads per the tech sheet. Replace the motor if out of spec.
- 7. Control board diagnosis: If motor and wiring test good, the motor drive circuit on the main control may be faulty and require replacement by a technician.
