Possible Causes
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Disconnect power to the softener. Do not work on pressurized brine lines without first depressurizing the system.
- 1. Inspect brine tubing: Follow the small-diameter brine tube from the Rayne control valve to the brine tank. Look for kinks, sharp bends, or crushed sections. Straighten or replace as needed.
- 2. Check brine line connections: Ensure the compression fittings at the control valve and brine well are tight but not overtightened. Remove the line and blow through it; if restricted, flush or replace.
- 3. Clean refill flow control: At the control valve brine port, locate the refill flow control (small orifice or button). Remove carefully and soak in vinegar to dissolve mineral buildup, then rinse and reinstall.
- 4. Inspect brine valve: With water off and pressure relieved, remove the brine valve assembly from the Rayne control head (consult model-specific diagram). Check for debris, torn seals, or stuck plunger. Clean and reassemble.
- 5. Test operation: Restore water and power, then start a manual regeneration. Observe the brine tank during the refill stage to confirm water is entering.
When to call a technician: If the brine valve coil or internal actuator is not energizing, or the control board is not sending power, professional diagnosis is recommended.
