Possible Causes
Exhausted or fouled resin, Incorrect hardness setting, No brine draw, Insufficient salt dose
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety: Shut off water and depressurize before opening the valve or resin tank connections.
- Test water hardness: Use a hardness test kit before and after the softener to confirm that hardness is not being removed.
- Verify settings: Ensure the programmed hardness matches your actual water hardness (including iron compensation if applicable). Increase salt dose or capacity if undersized.
- Check brine draw: During regeneration, observe the brine tank. The brine level should drop during the brine draw stage. If it does not, clean the injector and brine line (see ERR BRINE).
- Inspect resin condition: If the system is older or has been exposed to iron or chlorine, the resin may be fouled or worn out. Remove a small sample of resin from the top of the tank; if beads are mushy or broken, replace the resin with US Water Systems softening resin.
