Possible Causes

Failed outdoor condenser NTC sensor, Sensor wiring damaged by weather or rodents, Loose connector on outdoor PCB, Faulty outdoor PCB sensor circuit

How to Fix / Troubleshooting

Safety: Turn off the outdoor isolator or main breaker. Outdoor units contain high voltage and moving parts.

  • Access outdoor unit: Remove the service panel on the outdoor AEG unit.
  • Locate coil sensor: Find the sensor clipped to the condenser coil or inserted into a small tube on the coil. It will have two small wires leading to the outdoor PCB.
  • Check physical condition: Ensure the sensor is intact, not cracked, and firmly attached to the coil. Check that the cable insulation is not brittle or chewed.
  • Inspect connector: Reseat the sensor connector on the outdoor PCB. Look for corrosion or water ingress around the plug.
  • Test sensor: If you have a multimeter, disconnect the sensor and measure resistance. Compare to expected NTC values (often 5–20 kΩ at 25°C). Replace if open or shorted.
  • Replace sensor: Fit a compatible AEG outdoor coil temperature sensor. Clip or insert it in the same location and secure the cable.
  • If E3 persists: The outdoor PCB may be defective. Due to live mains and compressor control circuits, contact an authorised AEG service technician.
