Possible Causes
Compressor drawing excessive current, Shorted compressor winding, Blocked condenser coil causing high pressure, Faulty outdoor fan motor, Defective inverter module or power PCB
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety: This fault involves high current and high pressure. Turn off power at the breaker and do not repeatedly restart the unit.
- Check airflow: Ensure the outdoor unit coil is not blocked by leaves, dust, or debris. Clean gently with a soft brush and low-pressure water (power off).
- Verify outdoor fan operation: When the unit is turned on (after cleaning and reassembly), observe whether the outdoor fan starts. If the fan does not run but the compressor hums or tries to start, the fan motor may be faulty.
- Inspect wiring: With power off, check for burnt connectors or discoloured wires on the outdoor PCB and compressor terminals.
- Do not bypass protection: Never bypass overloads or fuses. If E5 persists after cleaning and basic checks, the compressor or inverter PCB may be failing.
- Call a technician: A qualified AEG technician should measure compressor current, check refrigerant pressures, and test the inverter module.
