Possible Causes

Defective outdoor ambient NTC sensor, Sensor displaced from mounting point, Broken sensor wiring, Faulty outdoor PCB

How to Fix / Troubleshooting

Safety: Turn off power at the breaker before opening the outdoor unit.

Steps:

  • 1. Locate ambient sensor: On Airwell outdoor units, the ambient sensor is usually mounted near the air intake grille or on a bracket away from the coil, exposed to outdoor air.
  • 2. Inspect mounting: Ensure the sensor is not touching hot surfaces and is positioned in free air. Reposition if necessary.
  • 3. Check wiring: Follow the sensor cable to the PCB. Look for damage or loose connectors. Reseat the plug.
  • 4. Test resistance: With power OFF, disconnect and measure the sensor resistance. Compare with expected NTC values at current temperature. Replace if readings are abnormal.
  • 5. Replace sensor: Install a compatible Airwell outdoor ambient sensor. Secure it in the original location and route the cable neatly.
  • 6. PCB evaluation: If the sensor is good and wiring intact, the outdoor PCB may be misreading the sensor and need replacement.
