Possible Causes
Refrigerant leak in indoor or outdoor coil, Blocked capillary or electronic expansion valve, Dirty condenser coil, Failing compressor
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety: Do not attempt to open the refrigerant circuit. Always turn off power before removing covers.
Steps:
- 1. Confirm mode and settings: Ensure the unit is set to Cool mode with a set temperature at least 3–5°C below room temperature and fan speed not on Fan Only.
- 2. Check indoor airflow: Clean filters and ensure vents are not blocked.
- 3. Inspect outdoor unit: Confirm the outdoor fan and compressor are running (you should hear the compressor and feel warm air from the outdoor fan).
- 4. Clean outdoor coil: If the coil is dirty, gently clean it to improve heat rejection.
- 5. Professional refrigerant check: If airflow is good and the outdoor unit runs but cooling is weak, a certified technician must check refrigerant charge, locate leaks, and repair them. Operating with low refrigerant can damage the compressor.
