Possible Causes
Blocked condensate drain pipe, Algae or sludge in drain pan, Indoor unit not level, Cracked or disconnected drain hose
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety: Turn off the air conditioner at the breaker before working near electrical parts. Water and electricity are hazardous together.
Steps:
- 1. Check unit level: Use a spirit level on top of the indoor unit. The unit should be slightly tilted toward the drain side (usually right). If not, adjust the mounting plate or brackets.
- 2. Inspect drain outlet: Remove the front cover and filters. Locate the drain pan and outlet on the side. Check for visible blockages (dust, slime).
- 3. Clean drain pan: Wipe out sludge and debris from the pan with a cloth. Use a mild detergent solution if needed.
- 4. Flush drain pipe: From the outdoor end of the drain hose, use a wet/dry vacuum to suck out blockages, or gently flush with water if accessible. Do not use high pressure that could disconnect the hose.
- 5. Check hose connections: Ensure the drain hose is firmly attached to the indoor drain spigot and has a continuous downward slope with no kinks.
- 6. Test drainage: Pour a small amount of clean water into the drain pan and verify it flows freely out of the drain hose outside.
If leaks persist after cleaning and leveling, the drain pan or hose may be cracked and require replacement.
