Possible Causes

Dirty evaporator coil, Standing water in drain pan, Long periods of inactivity in humid conditions, Clogged drain causing stagnation

How to Fix / Troubleshooting

Safety: Turn off power at the breaker. Wear a mask and gloves to avoid inhaling mold spores or chemicals.

Steps:

  • 1. Clean filters: Remove and wash filters with warm soapy water. Dry completely before reinstalling.
  • 2. Access coil: Open the front panel and, if possible, remove the plastic louver assembly to expose more of the evaporator coil.
  • 3. Apply coil cleaner: Use a non-rinse foaming coil cleaner approved for air conditioners. Spray evenly on the coil fins and allow it to work as directed.
  • 4. Clean drain pan: Wipe the drain pan with a cloth and mild disinfectant solution. Ensure the drain outlet is clear (see leaking water fault).
  • 5. Run fan-only mode: After cleaning, run the unit in Fan Only mode for 30–60 minutes to help dry the coil and reduce odors.
  • 6. Regular maintenance: Repeat cleaning periodically, especially in humid climates.
