Possible Causes
Clogged condensate drain pan or tube, unit not properly tilted toward outside, cracked drain pan, blocked weep holes in chassis
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Turn off and unplug the unit. Place towels or a tray under the unit to catch water.
Steps to stop indoor water leakage:
- Check unit tilt: For window and PTAC units, ensure the unit is slightly tilted toward the outside so water flows outdoors. Adjust mounting or shims as needed.
- Clean drain pan and holes: Remove the front cover and access the condensate pan under the evaporator coil. Clear debris, algae, and dirt from the pan and drain holes using a small brush or pipe cleaner.
- Flush drain: If a drain tube is attached, disconnect and flush it with warm water and a small amount of bleach to kill algae.
- Inspect for cracks: Examine the plastic drain pan for cracks or warping. Replace the pan if damaged.
Do not seal all weep holes; they are necessary for proper drainage. Only remove obstructions.
