Amana central air handler or packaged AC shows F1 on the display; blower may not run correctly.
Safety Warning
This repair may involve working with high voltage components or water connections. Always unplug the appliance before removing any panels.
If you are not confident in your ability to perform this repair safely, we strongly recommend contacting a professional technician.
Possible Causes
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Turn off power at the furnace/air handler disconnect and breaker. Confirm power is off with a non-contact voltage tester.
Steps to address F1 (blower fault):
- Access blower compartment: Remove the blower door panel to expose the blower assembly and control board.
- Check wiring: Inspect the blower motor harness and plug for loose connections or burnt pins. Reseat connectors firmly.
- Test motor: For PSC motors, test capacitor and motor windings with a multimeter. For ECM motors, check for 120/240V supply and low-voltage control signals at the motor module.
- Inspect control board: Look for burnt blower relay contacts or damaged traces. If the relay is not energizing with a call for fan, the board may be defective.
- Replace components: Replace a failed blower motor or capacitor with the correct Amana-rated parts. If the motor is good but not receiving power, replace the control board.
ECM motors are sensitive and expensive; handle carefully and avoid static discharge to the control module.
