Possible Causes
Failed ECM blower motor module, Loose blower harness connector, Obstructed blower wheel, Faulty American Standard indoor control board
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Turn off power to the air handler or furnace at the breaker. The blower compartment may contain sharp metal edges.
- Inspect blower wheel: Remove the blower access panel. Check for debris, insulation, or wiring contacting the blower wheel. Spin the wheel by hand; it should rotate freely without scraping.
- Check motor harness: Locate the ECM blower motor and its multi-pin connector. Ensure the plug is fully seated and there are no bent pins or burnt spots.
- Reset power: After reseating connectors, restore power and call for cooling. If the blower starts then stops and E8 returns, the ECM module or control board may be failing.
- Do not bypass safeties: Avoid jumping wires or bypassing controls to force the blower on. A technician should test the ECM motor and board using manufacturer procedures.
