Possible Causes
Seized blower motor bearings, Failed ECM module, Obstructed blower wheel, Faulty American Standard indoor control board output
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Turn off power to the indoor unit. The blower assembly is heavy and has sharp edges.
- Inspect blower wheel and housing: Remove the blower assembly if necessary. Clean dust buildup from the wheel and housing. Ensure nothing is lodged in the blades.
- Check motor rotation: Try spinning the blower wheel by hand. If it is stiff or grinding, the motor bearings may be failing and the motor should be replaced.
- Inspect ECM module: Look for burnt components or a burnt smell from the ECM module attached to the motor. If present, replacement of the motor/module assembly is usually required.
- Reset power: After cleaning and inspection, restore power and test. If L1 returns, professional testing of the motor and board is recommended.
