- Observe outdoor unit: With power on and a call for cooling, check if the outdoor fan runs but the compressor is silent. A humming sound followed by a click suggests a start issue.
- Inspect capacitor (visual): With power off, locate the dual run capacitor. If the top is bulged or leaking, replace it with the same µF and voltage rating.
- Do not repeatedly restart: If the compressor does not start after capacitor replacement, shut the system down. A technician should test compressor windings and current draw.
