Possible Causes
Tripped outdoor breaker, Blown fuses in disconnect, Failed contactor coil, Broken low-voltage Y call wire
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Turn off power at the main panel before opening any electrical enclosures.
- Check breaker and disconnect: Verify the outdoor unit breaker is ON. Open the outdoor disconnect and inspect or test fuses; replace only with identical type and rating.
- Inspect low-voltage wiring: Confirm that the small-gauge thermostat wires are intact and connected to the contactor coil terminals.
- Listen for contactor click: With power restored and a call for cooling, listen for a click from the contactor. No click suggests a control or coil issue.
- Professional diagnosis: If the unit remains dead, a technician should test for 24V at the contactor coil and 240V at the line side to determine if the contactor or control board has failed.
