Possible Causes

Low supply voltage or unstable power, Shorted compressor winding, Shorted fan motor, Faulty main PCB power stage

How to Fix / Troubleshooting

Safety: Unplug the unit before any internal inspection. Do not bypass safety devices or fuses.

Steps to troubleshoot E5:

  • Check power supply: Plug the Arctic King unit directly into a properly grounded wall outlet (no extension cords). Use a voltmeter to confirm voltage is within the rated range (typically 115V or 230V depending on model).
  • Inspect cord and plug: Look for burn marks, melted plastic, or loose blades. Replace the power cord if damaged.
  • Reset and test: After confirming proper voltage, unplug for 5 minutes, then plug back in and try again. If E5 reappears, continue.
  • Internal inspection: Remove the outer cover to access the main PCB, compressor, and fan motors. Look for obvious shorts: burnt wires, melted connectors, or charred PCB areas.
  • Fan motor check: Spin the indoor and outdoor fan blades by hand (with power off). They should turn freely. A seized motor can cause overcurrent. Replace the indoor blower motor or condenser fan motor if seized or burnt.
  • Compressor check (advanced): With power disconnected, measure resistance between compressor terminals and to ground. Very low resistance between terminals or any continuity to ground suggests a shorted compressor, which requires professional replacement.
  • PCB replacement: If motors and compressor test good but E5 persists, the main control board's power components may be failing. Replace the main control board with an Arctic King-compatible part.
