Possible Causes
Shorted compressor, Shorted inverter transistors, Power surge damage, Loose or burnt wiring to compressor
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety: Unplug the unit. Inverter and IPM circuits are hazardous; do not probe live circuits without proper training.
Steps to address H5:
- Inspect wiring: Check compressor wiring harness and connectors for burns or loose contacts.
- Compressor test (advanced): With power off, measure resistance between compressor terminals and to ground. Any short to ground or extremely low resistance between terminals suggests a failed compressor.
- Inverter board inspection: Look for cracked or burnt IPM module on the inverter PCB.
- Professional repair: H5 almost always requires replacement of the inverter PCB and possibly the compressor. This should be done by a licensed HVAC technician.
