Possible Causes
Dead remote batteries, Obstructed IR sensor window, Faulty remote control, Failed IR receiver on control board
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety: No internal high-voltage work is needed for basic checks; unplug only if opening the control panel.
Steps to restore remote operation:
- Replace batteries: Install fresh, correctly oriented batteries in the remote.
- Check line of sight: Ensure there is a clear path between the remote and the unit's IR receiver window on the front panel.
- Test remote: Point the remote at a smartphone camera and press buttons; you should see the IR LED flash on the camera screen. If not, replace the remote control.
- Inspect IR receiver: If the remote works but the unit does not respond, remove the front panel and inspect the small IR receiver board or component on the display board. Ensure its connector is secure.
- Replace receiver/display board: If connections are good and the unit still does not respond to a known-good remote, replace the display/control panel board (which includes the IR receiver on many Arctic King models).
