Possible Causes
Clogged condensate drain line, Misaligned indoor unit causing poor drainage, Cracked drain pan, Excessive ice melt from frozen coil
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Turn off power before working on the unit. Place towels or a container under the unit to catch water.
- Step 1 – Check drain hose: Locate the condensate drain hose exiting the indoor unit. Ensure it slopes downward continuously and is not kinked or blocked.
- Step 2 – Clear blockage: Disconnect the drain hose end and blow through it or use a wet/dry vacuum from the outside end to remove sludge and debris.
- Step 3 – Clean drain pan: Remove the indoor front cover and access the drain pan. Remove dirt, algae, and slime. Clean with a mild disinfectant to prevent regrowth.
- Step 4 – Check unit level: Use a spirit level to ensure the indoor unit is slightly tilted toward the drain side. Adjust mounting bracket if necessary.
- Step 5 – Address icing: If the coil was frozen, investigate causes (dirty filters, low refrigerant) and correct them to prevent repeat leaks.
