Possible Causes
Open or shorted discharge temperature sensor, Sensor detached from discharge pipe, Damaged sensor harness, Faulty outdoor PCB
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety: Turn off power at the isolator. The discharge line can be very hot; allow time to cool.
Steps:
- 1. Access discharge sensor: Remove outdoor unit cover. The discharge NTC is usually strapped or clipped to the small-diameter copper pipe leaving the compressor.
- 2. Check attachment: Ensure the sensor is tightly fixed to the pipe with its original clip or strap and insulated if originally wrapped.
- 3. Inspect cable and connector: Look for heat damage or brittle insulation. Reseat the connector on the outdoor PCB.
- 4. Test sensor: Measure resistance at ambient temperature and compare with Baxi specifications. Replace if open/shorted or far out of range.
Warning: Do not run the unit with a bypassed or disconnected discharge sensor; this protects the compressor from overheating.
