Possible Causes
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety: Isolate power before accessing the outdoor unit. Do not attempt to mechanically force the valve.
Steps:
- 1. Listen for valve shift: When switching between cooling and heating, you should hear a distinct click from the reversing valve.
- 2. Check coil wiring: With power off, inspect the two wires going to the reversing valve coil for damage or loose connections.
- 3. Coil resistance: A technician can measure coil resistance; an open circuit indicates a failed coil.
Action: If the coil is good but the valve does not shift, the valve may be stuck internally or the PCB output is faulty. Replacement of the valve or outdoor PCB requires a refrigeration technician.
