Possible Causes
Failing outdoor fan motor bearings, Fan blade hitting shroud or grille, Loose compressor mounting bolts, Worn compressor internal components
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety: Turn off power before inspecting the outdoor unit. Moving fan blades are hazardous.
- 1. Visual inspection: Look through the grille to see if the fan blade is contacting any surfaces. Straighten bent blades carefully.
- 2. Spin test: With power off, spin the fan blade by hand. If it feels rough or stiff, the motor bearings may be failing and the motor should be replaced.
- 3. Check mounting: Remove the top cover (if accessible) and tighten fan motor and compressor mounting bolts.
- 4. Persistent loud humming with poor cooling: May indicate compressor mechanical failure; contact a technician.
