Possible Causes
Full internal condensate tank, Stuck or failed float switch, Blocked condensate drain channel, Disconnected or damaged float switch wiring
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety: Unplug the unit before draining water or removing panels. Water and electricity are a dangerous combination.
- Drain the tank: On portable Black+Decker units, locate the lower drain plug at the back. Place a shallow pan or tray under the drain, remove the plug, and allow all water to drain out. Reinstall the plug securely.
- Check continuous drain hose (if used): Ensure the hose is not kinked, elevated above the outlet, or blocked. The hose should slope downward to a drain.
- Inspect float switch: Remove the rear panel to access the internal water collection tray. Locate the float and float switch assembly. Make sure the float moves freely up and down and is not stuck by dirt or scale.
- Clean the tray and channel: Wipe out any slime, mold, or debris from the condensate tray and drain channel using a mild detergent solution. Rinse and dry.
- Check wiring: Verify the float switch wires are intact and the connector is firmly attached to the main PCB.
- Test float switch (advanced): With the unit unplugged, disconnect the float switch and test continuity with a multimeter while moving the float. Replace the float switch if it does not change state when the float moves.
- Reassemble and test: After cleaning and draining, reassemble the unit, plug it in, and run in COOL mode. E5 should clear if the float system is working correctly.
