Possible Causes
Defective high-temperature sensor on condenser, Sensor dislodged from coil, Overheating due to blocked exhaust or dirty coil, Failed sensor input on main PCB
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety: Unplug the unit and allow it to cool before working near the compressor and condenser.
- Check ventilation: Ensure the unit has adequate clearance from walls and furniture. For portable units, verify the exhaust hose is properly installed and vented outdoors.
- Clean condenser: Remove the rear panel and gently clean the condenser fins with a soft brush and vacuum.
- Inspect sensor: Locate the overheat sensor on the condenser coil or discharge line. Confirm it is securely attached and not hanging loose.
- Check wiring: Inspect the sensor wires for heat damage or chafing. Reseat the connector on the main PCB.
- Test sensor: With power disconnected, measure the sensor's resistance and compare to specifications. Replace if out of range.
- Persistent F3: If the sensor is good and airflow is normal, the main PCB may be misreading the sensor and should be evaluated by a technician.
